This circa 600 acre estate (which included a number of islands) which was part of a larger three thousand and twenty-six acres is recorded as being owned by Major William Hawkins Ball in 1878. His wife Julia, whom he married in 1845 was the youngest daughter of Standish, 1st Viscount Guillamore (O'Grady). His heir presumptive was  his nephew Richard Hawkins Beauchamp, J.P. The house was burned down in the 1920's; the estate was then divided and three hindred acres were purchased by Mr Michael Garry circa 1924.

Clare Library site; Fort FergusThis was the home of the Ball family who evicted two hundred families from the townland of Inisdia during the nineteenth century. The evicted families moved inland and lived in overcrowded conditions in areas like Cappanagerra and Lavalla. Fort Fergus house was burned down during the Troubles
