Comment: Mr. Paterson I'm sure you have heard this thousands of times but what an amazing website you have. From your website I have found information on my Great-Great-Grandfather, Andrew Bowie. The East Stirlingshire Census 1881 has a wealth of information and I was able to find details of his wife and children, the address they lived at, their ages and their occupations.

I am so lucky to have come across your website. Thank you,

Comment: Hi,

I am currently carrying out my family tree on the Stevenson side of the family. I know that my Great, Great Grandfather resided in Buttock, Polmont and was acanal boatman living at the cottages during the 19th Century, his father Andrew also worked and lived there as well. I know that John Stevenson *G G Grandfather) was married to Isabella McNee and they had a number of Children, Andrew, John, Thomas, Elizabeth, Adam, William. I have connections with the McNee side of the family and I am aware that a Robert McNee was killed in a workplace accident on the 2nd April 1929. I am also aware that Elizabeth married a Robert Hamilton and also have connections with Wilson's from this area.

If anyone has connections to my family I would be grateful to hear from you.

Tom Stevenson

Comment: Hi Tom
I managed to locate your site through the Bing search engine. I can confirm that Elizabeth Allardyce b 19 November 1832 was the daughter of John Allardyce (16 Aug 1795-23 Apr 1849), a seaman from Macduff. John was the son of George Allardyce (c1766-1815) and Ann Raffan (1769-1853), my GGG Grandparents. I am descended from John's sister, Isabella Allardyce (1797-1882). I checked the kirk session records for Macduff and Isabella Kellas accused John of being the father of her child but he never appeared to confirm or deny the accusation.
I would be interested in seeing any additional information you may have on our family link.
Kind regards
Gordon

One set of my wife's GGGrandparents was Isabella Scott Braid and John Charleston. Their parents were, respectively Grizzel Thomson with William Braid and I. Henderson with A Charleston.
I am just trying to hone my perceptions.
Currently I am working on a little booklet for them or their direct line ancestry, using whatever pictures, descriptions I can find.

Nice to meet you. I have never come across your pages before but certainly will again.

William was a widower and an Iron Moulder aged 45, living in Munro St Stenhousemuir, Larbert with his daughters. He emigrated to Australia in 1887 following the death of his youngest daughter Margaret from consumption. I'll be visiting Scotland in July and now know I can visit Munro Street. And maybe find the cemetery where Margaret (aged 19 or 20) was buried. Thanks so much.

Elizabeth Daughter was born 1823 Falkirk, but I can find no record of the birth. She married John Scott from East Kilbride a gardner. They had one marriage in Rutherglen. Both John and Elizabeth are buried in Cambusnetan.
John Mitchell goes back to James the Covenanter and we have some Patersons connected. I recently had my DNA done with ancestry and get a lot of Pattersons. If anyone can shed any light on the smith family, I would be more than happy.

Comment: I have done extensive research re. a Johnstone person named Janet, who came from the area of Denny, Scotland. She married a James Cleland in Denny in 1836. Their first two children: Norris and Thomas were baptised in Denny. James and Janet's marriage record (also in Denny# lists that her Father was Thomas Johnstone #listed as deceased)and the word Holhouse also appears in the marriage record. I also have a hand-written document that tells additional information about this Johnstone family and says that this family lived in the Denny area for many generations.

I would very much like to find additional information regarding the Scottish history of this family and would be happy to share additional information I have in my collection from after they came to Canada in 1845 (with four young children). They would be my great great grandparents on my father's mother's side. Thank you for this opportunity to share some of my family genealogy searching. -- Joanne

I am told that he died as a result of being dragged to death, by a team of mules, while farming in Texas in 1881. He had one son, my grandfather, who died in 1943. I notice that the Irish-focused genealogy shows significant military involvement and history. We have continued that tradition here in the USA, with commendable service in WWI, WWII, Korea, and in the Vietnam Conflict. I would appreciate any information you might be able to provide regarding my Great-Grandfather.

Thank you, in advance .....

Comment: Hello Mr Patterson,
Most greatly impressed by your work !!
Found your site whilst trying to find info' on my great grandfather William Codona married to Mary Carr or Kerr, and found it in your Polmont 1881 database. William (related to Alfredo Codona, trapeze artist in some way} died of TB and Mary remarried an Hendry? Stoneham. She is buried in Larbert churchyard.
I'm no genealogist by any stretch of imagination but have for several years taken digital pics of tombstones mainly in Hawkhead cem Paisley, Neilston cem, St Conville's Barrhead ..also some in Cathcart, Glasgow and others.
Have thousands which I'm attempting to catalogue in a meaningful way and have purchased OVS software from America to make it a useful free tool for others. If you have some person's memorial near my patch that you are interested in, let me know and I'll do my best to visit it and take a pic.
I'm a retired GP just aiming to keep active.

Comment: Hi, I am researching the Lyon and Ewing families who came from Baldernock.William Bruce my 4xgt.grandfather married Mary Lyon from here in 1825. Mary was the daughter of James John Lyon and Agness Ewing, both born Baldernock. Agness and her family were from a place (farm?) called Blochearn. I would be grateful if anyone has any information regarding these people or places, and any photos they could share with me.
I think this is a great site...thank you.
Regards, Sheilah Bebbington (nee Bruce)

Comment: Looking for info on Culcreuch Estate. My Great Grandparents Andrew & Jane Buchanan lived in the South Cottage on Culcreuch Estate in 1881, he was a farm labourer. At that time they had two sons aged 2 years and 2 months respectively. After 1881 the trail goes cold.
My grandparents marriage certificate of 1908 shows Andrew deceased and Jane had by then changed her name to Brownlie and was living in Lanarkshire.
I also believe that at the time of his death Andrew was working for the railways.
Can you fill in the missing links. I have contacted what is now the hotel on the site but to date no response

Many thanks.
ps my own father is now 87 also called Andrew Buchanan and very interested in the research

Comment: MCLEOD/LITTLE : I am trying to find out more about ROBERT MCLEOD b. 1776 Sutherland and his wife, FANNY LITTLE b. 1881 Londonderry, Ireland. I know they had at least 8 children:
George b. 1800 Londonderry; William b. 1803, Reay, Caithness; Donald b. 1806 Reay; Jean b. 1808 Reay; Robert 1811 Croick; William b. 1813 Reay Strathallard; John b. 1817 Farr; and David b. 1820 - my GG grandfather. Does anyone have information on Robert and Fanny - their prents/siblings etc.
and also anything on JEAN b. 1808, and DONALD b. 1806? I would appreciate any news. Thank you. Denise

Comment: A relative found our Celtic name for Morrison so how wonderful to have a start! Your site is amazing but I am still trying to move forward and figure out names of our family. Our father James Morrison, had a Grandfather Uhriah Trapp that we managed to track back to the 1600's going by ship to Martha's vineyard from Scottland, but it ends there. Thank you for your site!

Comment: I've been carrying out family history research for my husband's side of the family. It would seem you two are related - his great-great grandfather is the William Ure of Middlerigg Cottage, Muiravonside (from the 1881 census). It gives a strange feeling to know that there are unknown relations out there - just along the road :) Thank you for your website!

Comment: This has been very helpful. I have found my great-grandfather Alexander Jamieson who in 1881 was running an ironmonger/stationers shop in Camelon (Falkirk Landward L1562). He had a twin brother Walter whom I can't track down. does anyone have any info on him?

Comment: Starting off a fresh guestbook for the year 2011. A happy new year to all of you.

My new year has started by moving my entire site to this new address, http://tompaterson.co.uk, and new email address

This I've had to do because Sky, a totally immoral and unethical company, bought my main isp, ukonline, some 5 years ago and have now decided to shut it down with no redirection facilities for my web site or email forwarding. I have used this isp for 15 years, and my ukonline site is top of the google search when you type in "Tom Paterson". I'm also linked to by over 500 sites that I now have to contact. I've rebelled against them by cancelling my Sky TV package and have now moved to Virgin and I'm also doing my bit to publicise how dreadfully they treat customers by posting this here. Cheers Sky, you need to learn a bit about customer care.
