GRIMSBY DROWNING MYSTERY. Two heavy steel spanners, about fifteen inches long and nearly an inch thick, were the subject of speculation at the inquest held yesterday, •it Grimsby upon Joseph Hossack (52), fitter’s foreman, of 75, whose body was recovered on Sunday from the Fish Dock. Deceased was employed by the Consolidated Steam Fishing Company. and it was his duty to supervise repairs to vessels of their fleet. On Saturday morning, before breakfast, he visited the dry dock to inspect two ships undergoing repairs and was never seen again until his body was recovered next evening from the dock. The heavy spanners were found thrust through his belt, one hanging down each leg, It was stated that deceased was a reliable, methodical man, of even temperament, so regular in his movements as to be “as good as a clock.” He had never threatened to take his life, and the suggestion that he had committed suicide was scouted. The manner in which the spanners were secured to his belt would afford an easy means of conveying them, it was said, and they were tools which deceased might have needed about his work. The Coroner advised the jury to return an open verdict of Found drowned.” and this was done
